Vintage Connemara marble silver shamrock earrings 1960's
These gorgeous oversized shamrock earclip earrings are quite rare. They are sterling silver with the silver hallmark for Henry Griffith & Sons. We date them to around the early 1960’s
As I have said these earrings are quite rare, most Henry Griffith shamrock earrings are quite a bit smaller so these may well have been a special order. In the factory they may have used two brooches and adapted them into clip-on earrings! You can still see a mark on the reverse of one where the C-shaped clasp would have been and traces of the cement used to attach the (unmatched) fixings.
Henry Griffith opened his silver business in 1850 registering his first hallmark in Birmingham Assay Office in November 1858. The firm was active at in Birmingham, but later moved to a new purpose-built factory in Royal Leamington Spa (Warwickshire) which was eventually closed in November 1982. The company was well known for manufacturing these shamrock and Connemara marble brooches.
Apart from this modification, the earrings are in excellent condition. There are no scratches, nicks or signs of wear to the marble, which is nicely and subtly striated. We can guarantee that these are made from genuine Connemara Marble
